The oldest of the Baby Boomer generation is now aging into their mid-70s, and they’re shaking up the senior care industry as they have everything else in their lifetimes. More often now, elderly parents and grandparents are choosing not to enter senior care facilities and instead remain in their homes or move in with their adult children. At the same time, hiring an in-home care aide has become more widely accessible in recent years. This has made the option of moving senior family members into your own home or for them to remain in their homes more economical in the long run, as well as more compassionate.

The move into a senior care facility can seem scary or uncomfortable for those who require extra care as they age. Most people don’t wish to leave the comfort of their own home for a brand-new place living among people they don’t know. Nursing homes are also expensive options, and as humans begin to live longer, moving into a facility may become too much of a financial burden. There’s also a fear that nursing home aides won’t have enough time in their day to show the right amount of care to everyone under their supervision. At home, the children of elderly parents can be assured their loved ones will receive the appropriate care and attention they require.

Today, the focus is on implementing the same design elements of a standard home into a universally accessible space. These designs reflect the fact that regardless of a person’s mobility, their desire is to live in a beautiful and comforting home. Modern technology is making it easier than ever to upgrade the elemental features of a home without sacrificing the style of the space.

The end result is a place where families can grow together, where the old and young alike feel welcomed and safe, and where the beauty of the home is not lost.
