Find a Home Remodeler Frequently Asked Questions
Learn how to find remodeling professionals near you, understand NARI membership and certification, and check qualifications before choosing a contractor for your home.
Start with the Find a Remodeler directory on Remodeling Done Right, NARI's homeowner website. Use the available search fields to look for professionals in your area, then contact companies to confirm their service area, project experience, and availability.
NARI certification is an individual professional credential earned by meeting the requirements for a specific remodeling specialty. It recognizes qualifications beyond company membership. Ask which professional on your project team holds the credential and whether that certification is current.
NARI membership and NARI certification are different. Membership identifies a business's association affiliation; certification recognizes an individual professional's qualifications. A directory listing should not be treated as proof that every employee is certified. Ask the company which team members hold current NARI credentials.
You can access Remodeling Done Right's public planning guides and Find a Remodeler page without joining the professional association. Start with the directory or a planning guide, and contact remodeling companies directly about your project.
Ask the contractor for its current license information, where licensing is required, and proof of insurance. Verify the information with the relevant licensing authority and insurance provider. Check NARI affiliation separately; association membership and professional certification do not replace required licenses or insurance.
