New Orleans, Louisiana
2021 National/Regional CotY Award Winner, Entire House $500,001 to $750,000
Built in the 1800s by a lumber baron, the house was passed down many generations and owned by only four different families. Many of its original architectural elements remained onsite, including plaster medallions, mantels and pine floors, which all required varying degrees of restoration. In addition, the house had no central air and was in need of significant updating to make it livable in the 21st century. A poorly built 1970s addition was removed from the back, allowing for a modern kitchen and an upstairs master suite to be added in its place, hidden from view so as not to disrupt the historic front elevation.
