2019 Regional CotY Award Winner, Basement Over $100,000
The clients wanted to capture a large underutilized basement floor area and incorporate it into their circa 1900 house. The design intent of this basement conversion was to mix modern materials and methods with the beauty of the existing structure—all while being functional. Technical problems consisting of an underground aquifer, a web of utilities on the ceiling, and years of ad-hoc structural upgrades had to be solved without interfering with the desired aesthetic. The simple, yet highly technical design hides the results of past renovations but doesn’t conceal the beauty of its age, resulting in a warm, inviting environment for friends and family.
