2017 Chapter Community Service Award Winners
Each year, NARI honors those who really make a difference in our industry. On Friday, April 7, 2017 the following six chapters were recognized for their contribution and commitment to Remodeling Done Right by building communities, supporting neighbors and improving the quality of life of those nearest them.
Chapter Community Service Award
The Chapter Community Service Award is presented for remodeling work provided on a charitable basis. These projects reflect NARI’s promise – Remodeling Done Right – and our commitment as an industry to supporting professional and quality work. Below are the six chapters who received the 2017 Chapter Community Service Award.
NARI of Greater Cleveland
As part of its mission to complete charity work through its NARI Cares Program,
NARI of Greater Cleveland helped design, donate materials and complete the interior of the kitchen at
Santa’s Hide-A-Way Hollow, an organization that aims to create Christmas year-round for terminally ill children and their families. Santa’s new kitchen was completed in time for the organization’s Christmas in July events.
The organization also continued its Mentorship Program geared toward high school students interested in working in the building trades. Students custom built 14 birdhouses, which were displayed at the NARI Home Improvement Show, and attended the trade show on opening day to network with trade professionals, participate in educational seminars, view product demos and discover the latest remodeling trends. The birdhouses were raffled off for charity.
Greater Omaha NARI
As part of their commitment to give back to the community,
Greater Omaha NARI recently provided facility updates to the local youth boxing club. Members made the following renovations to the club, and covered all labor and costs associated with the project: They replaced two large broken windows; installed multiple automated LED lights to the exterior of the building to increase security; replaced two side door lights with LEDs, installed bathroom partitions in the girls’ locker room and placed a new toilet in the restroom.
NARI of Idaho
When a local disabled Vietnam Veteran needed help updating a portion of his bathroom,
NARI of Idaho came to his rescue. Through their local
Contractors Who Care Program, the chapter recently removed a tub and replaced it with a walk-in shower. The chapter stepped in and covered all the demolition, remodeling and installation costs for the project, including the miscellaneous materials.
NARI of Central Ohio
For more than 60 years a local charity has been assisting women get back on their feet. When
NARI of Central Ohio discovered that the facility’s kitchen needed a major update, they stepped right in. Though the original project plan was to just replace the cabinets and countertops, a full kitchen remodel took place, thanks to the generosity of our members. Updates made include brand new windows, an island, granite countertops, a subway-tile backsplash, new cabinets, linoleum flooring and a new chandelier. Residents were also provided with locker-style cabinets to store their own food.
Austin NARI
Austin NARI recently partnered with another local charity to finish a home remodeling project for a low-income family. Another organization had started the task but ran out of funds to complete it. Interior and exterior improvements were made to the home. Inside, a bedroom closet was finished off with a new door, door casing and drywall. In addition, plumbers and electricians updated the bathroom by adding a new vanity sink and cabinet, mirror, lighting, and an exhaust fan. On the exterior, members added a new front door, stained the staircase and touched up the appearance of the entry with stucco and paint. They also added a stepping stone walkway around the home.
Eastern Massachusetts NARI
Two noteworthy projects highlight
Eastern Massachusetts NARI’s commitment to giving back this year. When a World War II Veteran and his wife were struggling to safely remain in their home because of health and safety challenges, they completed an extreme home makeover with help from the
Rebuilding Together Foundation. Improvements included moving the laundry to the first floor, adding handrails throughout the home, installing a high efficiency heating system and replacing outdated cabinets and fixtures. The second project was completed in conjunction with the
Room to Dream Foundation. The chapter completed an extreme bedroom makeover for a chronically ill child and updated her two siblings’ bedrooms with new furniture and paint as well.
