2022 National/Regional CotY Award Winner, Universal Design - Entire House
A historic 1940s home was converted into a group home for functioning adults with developmental disabilities and their caretakers. The modern face-lift includes a 60-foot accessible ramp, whole-house sprinkler system, front porch, screened back porch, a wheelchair accessible bathroom and kitchen, and energy efficient components, including a tank-less water heater. Hallways and entryways were widened without compromising surrounding spaces and rooms were creatively converted to add three more bedrooms and an extra bathroom. Accessibility was a key component in this design. The practicality and comfort in this home make it truly one of a kind.
