2016 NARI Universal Design Recognition, Residential Bath $25,000 to $50,000
These homeowners wanted nothing more than to stay in their home as they aged. In order to do that and deal with her potential health concerns, our clients knew they needed to redesign the main bathroom in the house to accommo-date possible wheelchair accessible needs. During our design and discovery phase, we discussed how we might be able to borrow space from the adjoining rooms. In the end, we decided to borrow space from the front, hall coat closet to accommodate a larger traffic pattern in the bathroom. We also took the entire closet space from the adjoining bedroom to enlarge the shower and make it barrier free for a potential wheelchair user down the road.
