The existing fireplace in this house did not fit the scale or style of the room. The client requested a new fireplace and mantle with Arts and Crafts/Mission elements, including a tile surround and hearth featuring handmade Motawi tile. Quarter sawn oak was hand selected for character and custom made into lovely mantle pieces, including gently arched legs routed out with graceful fluting, typical of the Mission style. Ten-and-a-half foot tall, quarter sawn oak paneling above the custom mantle fills the wall space, bringing warmth and balance. The new fireplace design ties all the other elements in the space together and fits the room’s high ceiling.
