2016 Region 2 Southeast CotY Award Winner, Residential Historical Renovation/Restoration $250,000 and Over
The clients wanted to update their farmhouse, which was built in the 1800s, adding modern conveniences, while preserving its historic integrity. The goal was to restore the home to look as it did in 1867. The owners challenged the firm to find a balance between feeling like you’re at a museum and feeling at home. During construction, the team unearthed various signs of 19th century architecture and construction. They revealed authentic carpenter’s marks on timber framing, which was integrated into the renovation and is now on display as part of the transition between the two-story addition and the existing home.
