2020 Regional CotY Award Winner, Residential Detached Structure
This accessory dwelling unit (ADU) was designed for a client downsizing from her full-sized home to a space in her children's backyard. The building solves three core needs for both the resident and her family. It blends into the existing yard, creating a private and functional family patio. It provides sufficient storage and design space for a lifetime of memories and furniture moved over from the old home. Finally, it is full of age-in-place design considerations that will help maintain a high quality of life as mobility and safety become a concern. To build this ADU, an existing garage was demolished.
