2019 Regional CotY Award Winner, Universal Design - Entire House
A married couple with children wanted their aging mother to move in. Approximately 1000-square-feet was added for a private in-law suite, kitchenette and sunroom that is connected to the main house, but can be closed off for added privacy. The kitchenette’s countertops, cabinets and cabinet bases have contrasting colors to provide visual cues. Wide arched doorways and arched transom windows pull the spaces together. The master bath features a walk-in shower with low profile curb, a handheld shower faucet, grab bars and textured floors. The space was also designed with a separate entrance for visitors and multiple access points, which can be modified to add a wheelchair ramp.
