2018 National CotY Award Winner, Universal Design - Bath
This couple wanted to renovate their master bathroom when one of them was diagnosed with an illness that would require a wheelchair. To meet their future needs, the first floor was altered to transform a hall bath into a powder room and add space to expand the master suite. The need for barrier-free entrances created a challenge. To address this, a linear drain amid imperceptibly ramped tiles was installed and now directs the water without modifying the floor system. Other unique elements include a shallow-depth vanity with extended basin, a bidet-combo toilet, a thermostatic hand shower for bathing, and attractive accessible materials to keep this bathroom feeling upscale.
