2017 NATIONAL CotY Award Winner, Residential Kitchen Over $150,000

The owners of this 100-year-old home needed a new kitchen and wanted to restore it to the original character of this classically-inspired craftsman. With grown children living nearby, they desired a space that would not only be their dream kitchen, but a central gathering place for three generations. The new design removed dividing walls and raised the ceiling back to nine feet, which elevated sight lines and created more cabinet storage. A simple and practical rectangular plan around a central island reoriented the space toward the outdoors and the new classical stair landing. Honed Carrara marble countertops and Shaker style cabinet doors reinforce the craftsman/classical theme. Exposing the chimney brickwork of the dining room fireplace created a bold and rustic counterpoint to the cabinetry.
