The clients wanted to add a Japanese-style spa bath to their traditional Western-style home. The challenge was to create an authentic experience within the confines of the home, while meeting plumbing and building codes. To meld the two styles, the master bath door was converted into a pocket door, with the bedroom side matching the doors throughout the house, and the bathroom side matching the stained wood recessed panel doors in the master bath. Features include a custom cedar tub, stand-up shower, bathing shelf with independent handheld shower, vanity cabinets and recessed medicine cabinets. Wood grain and mitered porcelain wall tile, heated tile flooring, and quartzite countertops bring an organic presence to the space.
